Laptop blew up

So absolute bloody catastrophe Sunday night… 

My laptop decides to blow up the Sunday night before I'm about to run three online Zoom mastermind sessions - Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  

I was fiddling with it on the Sunday night - managed to get it to stay on. Did all the things in desperation that you do to try and get your laptop to stay working. I cleaned it because the screen was a mess. I upgraded all the software because it was overdue. I tidied up all the apps and made sure everything was shut down - did everything! It looked really good on the Sunday night. All stable, all looked lovely, all upgraded.  

Monday morning, go to do the mastermind, literally move it, and the thing explodes. So it's your worst nightmare as a business owner - that you've got a big event and your technology fails completely.  

What was amazing though, is I did a kind of rally cry to my team.  

I contacted Vicki to get these sessions all set up and to basically host it so that I could participate and run it, but not host it.  

I spoke to Maya who sent over all the login details. I had to download the app onto the iPad. So we got all the login details set up.  

Today, Rebecca has taken my laptop into laptop hospital so that I can continue to run today's session.  

And I managed to swerve in sideways just five minutes late yesterday and still run the session.  

So what did I learn? Number one, stay calm.  

I'd like to say I stayed completely calm - that would be an absolute lie, but I did stay relatively calm. When you freak out, your brain shuts down on you. And it limits your ability for critical and creative thinking - which are the two factors that you need when you're trying to solve short-term problems like that.  

The second thing that I learned is to reach out.  

We're not an island as business owners. We cannot do all of this on our own.  

So it's ok to reach out to people that you trust, who can potentially help you with the problem that you are dealing with at that moment.  

The last thing I learned is - well, I can't say I learned it, I kind of knew it already, so it's just validated - the fact that my team rock!  

When we've got a problem, everyone just downs tools, rallies, and we solve the problem as a team.  

Catastrophe averted, laptop in laptop hospital - please send it some love, I really need it back - but yeah, interesting learning and fascinating looking at how to handle these situations.
