A daily well done

So, I'm driving along in my car and I'm coming to one of those speed signs you see in villages where you’re shown a sad or happy face depending on what speed you’re doing. A very red, unhappy face if you’re going too fast, and a green smiley face when you’re doing the right speed.  

As I’m driving along, I see somebody in front of me get the red, unhappy face and I think to myself, I really want the green smiley face, so I begin to slow down.   

I find I'm really pleased with myself because I got the green smiley face, and it's made me really happy :)  

So then I begin to question myself…  

Am I really that person - you know, a mature adult woman – who can get that much of a kick out of seeing a happy, smiley face - like a visual pat on the back?   

The answer is yes, absolutely!  

Regardless of the fact that we are adults running successful businesses, the truth is that there is a little bit in all of us that wants the proverbial pat on the back, that little smiley face that says well done, you've done a good job. And we need to remember this as business owners, because quite often we are so busy delivering and working hard that we forget to give ourselves a regular pat on the back and tell ourselves, “Well done!”  

And it's such a fundamental part of running a successful business. It keeps you motivated, and makes you want to continually show up, especially during the hard times.   

Make sure you're getting multiple pats on the back and little rewards for jobs well done. And if you're not getting them externally, create them for yourself.
