We are self aware!

I did a poll yesterday to look at what the main challenges were for business owners right now. Thank you to everyone who took part.

Here are the results:
Sales - 33%
Time - 25%
Mindset - 24%
Standing out from the crowd - 18%

I suspected sales to be up front as this is the thing we hear most often. It's a bit like Marmite, you either love it or hate it. Most business owners did not set their business up to sell, they just want to deliver great value to awesome clients and be paid fairly for their work. Sound familiar? Sadly though, as anyone who's been in business for any length of time knows, you have inadvertently taken on a sales role and the sooner you get good at it the better.

Time came in second. Time management is historically such a dry subject but it's essential to learn techniques to maximise your efficiency and effectiveness and to outsource and delegate the right thing at the right time. Techniques like proper goal setting, time blocking and daily planning can feel they take more time and so get dropped, but actually, done well, they can save you heaps of wasted time and energy.

Mindset was very close to time and almost joint second. I always love a conversation where someone is prepared to own up to mindset issues for two key reasons: 1. It shows me they are honest and authentic as let's be honest, we all have them! 2. With a few exceptions, this is the stuff that's most easy to fix with the right education in the right environment surrounded by the right people.

Standing out from the crowd was last. This is interesting as I am having lots of conversations at the moment with business owners struggling to get noticed. We talk a lot about the power of niching to address this problem but it's a tough thing to put into practice as it feels counter-intuitive to spreading the net far and wide and being open to as many opportunities as possible. I promise you though, niching is the way forward. Maybe this was last simply because the other 3 feel more pressing.
