I don't know about you, but I am definitely feeling the toll of the last 12 months. It has definitely taken a lot of energy to get through this 12-month period as a business owner running a club helping other business owners.
If you are feeling exhaustion, uncertainty, like there's a lot of chaos, you're confused, you're worried about the future, these are all perfectly normal reactions based on what's going on right now. But every single one of those is just draining our energy, and we've had 12 months of this shit, so it's hard to then face another 12 months.
We've had some really exciting news, obviously, with things being lifted. That's great. However, not yet. And there's a lot of work to do to shift into that new phase, plus the uncertainty of, is it really going to happen this time? So, yeah, interesting times.
As a business owner, low energy and exhaustion is a major challenge. You get your income in based on you selling and delivering, and obviously that requires a decent amount of energy. Also, the energy and exhaustion chips away at your confidence which makes it much harder to go out and have conversations with customers, much harder to sell. So it really does chip away.
Now, I'm going to give you a little plan. I've nine steps I've put together for you, to help you deal with low energy. These are things that I do all the time, as I'm getting older.
As business owners, we forget to rest. We're so passionate or driven or desperate for money or whatever it is that's driving us forward. There's something that really drives business owners, and we very often forget to rest. When you're feeling tired and exhausted, the number one thing you need to do is rest. 24 hours out of your business is not going to end your business, right? We're playing the long game here. So if you take 24 or even 48 hours of deliberate rest to really quieten everything down and rest your body, honestly, it will make dramatic changes. I prescribe this to my members on a regular basis.
You do not need a constant thread of media right now. There's nothing fun about it. There's nothing energizing. There's nothing that is going to boost you up in order to do what you need to do, so switch it off. If you can't switch it off long term, fine. Switch it off for the 48 hours, and at least give your brain a break from the crazy that is going on in the world right now. Your body and your brain need to rest, and you need to just switch off the constant flow of cack that is going into your brain, so switch it off. Social media, switch off the media.
When you get pen and paper, literally physically hold a pen in your hand and write on paper, it slows everything down. It slows the brain down. It slows the whole system down. And what it allows you to do is make sense of the stuff that's going on in your head, typically that's going at 90 miles an hour in your head. It allows you to make sense of it. Use journaling. It doesn't need to be a beautiful written piece of prose. Literally shovelling it down. Honestly, my journal is like the rantings of a mad woman, but it gets it out of my head and it gets it onto paper. Once you've kind of got out like the initial crazy, you can start to get some clarity on what is going on for you right now and also what you need in order to move forward.
So if you've been in my club, you will have done this through goal setting and vision boards and all that stuff to really set the year up. If not, then you need to look at really coming back to fundamentally what is it that you want? What are you trying to create here for you? I urge you, bearing in mind we're constantly trying to talk to the subconscious, which loves play, I urge you to get some big sheets of paper out, some paint, some crayons, and really have some fun defining what it is that you fundamentally want from this life.
I just mentioned it actually. Creating a vision board, it gets written off as kind of woo-woo, but what a vision board does is hold your subconscious attention on the vision that you're trying to create for the future. So I'm a massive fan of spending a bit of time with vision boards. Vision boards don't have to be just a visual image. It can be music, it can be something that's tactile, whatever works for you to get your subconscious reconnected with the vision that you want it to create.
So plan out what the activity is that you need to do in order to start, not completely, but just start to achieve this vision. Dial it right back. So what we typically do is we go guns blazing out of the door initially at the start, and we don't give ourselves enough time to really map it out and bloody rest. So we need to really dial the plan back and make sure that we're doing the one, two, or three things on a daily, weekly, monthly basis that are actually going to move us forward.
Momentum creates momentum. When we're kind of, you know, exhausted, we're basically stopped. It's really hard to get the momentum going. In order to get the momentum going again, we have to start with some momentum. It can be difficult in the beginning, but a little bit of discipline, I know, the D word again, a little bit of discipline can keep us moving forward. So I really urge you to start taking action aligned with what it is that you want to achieve.
So this is my absolute, it's really my number one, is the environment that you're in is the biggest influencing factor on your ability to keep moving forward with the right headspace. So find an environment. Find a club, I have one. Find a club. Find a group. Find a bunch of people that are going to help you keep moving forward and keep your energies high, which is fundamentally what we need through this period. So fundamentally important.
Many business owners are not kind to themselves. Many human beings are not kind to themselves. But many business owners are not kind to themselves, and it's really important that you are. We are going through super tough times at the moment, and you need to be kind. You need to stop berating yourself, stop beating yourself up. Know that you are doing the best that you absolutely can right now, and just keep taking those steps forward. Get the right environment, and that'll help you with that bit.
But anyway, that's my nine-point plan for helping you move forward through exhaustion.
Number one, bloody well rest. Make it happen.
