I built my service business to over £100k on networking alone and I ran two networking groups in my local area.
However, I get frustrated when I see a lot of people waste time, money, and energy networking when it's not right for them.
So, here’s how to maximize your time and energy with networking.....
Firstly, decide what networking IS for you. Is it purely social or are you looking for business?
If it’s social, go for it! Have fun. There are no rules.
But, if it’s for business, before you join a networking group, you must know who your ideal client is. Who do you want buying your services?
The ideal scenario is that your ideal client is at the networking that you're doing, preferably in droves.
The next best thing is networking with people who are talking to your clients on a regular basis. Who would make a brilliant partner for you? Who already has the clients you’d love to work with?
My ideal clients are small service-based businesses who know the business they want to build. If I'm networking on a regular basis with, let's say, an accountant who is also targeting small service-based businesses, that is a match made in heaven. It’s an opportunity for collaboration and partnership, leveraging skills, resources, and knowledge, to grow both of our respective businesses.
If the business that you want isn’t available to you in the room, you may want to take that time, money, and energy and invest in learning other strategies that target your specific clients better.
