Get results others don’t

Hi, George Swift here from Bigger Brighter Bolder. Today, we are going to do what I call Meme Lucky Dip. I've got a whole bunch of memes here, many of them are many years old. You can tell by some of the really outdated branding on them. However, the philosophies and the mindset behind them and also the application of them today is every bit as valid as it was back then.

So what I do is I go in here - I'm going to scan through this. Where I stop, nobody knows... We'll dig it up, we'll have a chat, and we'll see how it relates to what it is that you're trying to do.

Okay. I'm not even looking at this. I'm not even looking. I'll flick, I'll flick, I'll flick it... I'll stop.

Okay, here we go. Wow! This is a real old one here, right? What's this one here?

"Get the results others can't by doing what others won't."

Man, this is old. This goes right back. I think I look about ten years younger there as well myself, right? “Get the results others can't by doing what others won't.” I think there’s another way of saying it now. I think I said it a little bit more poetically after that which was, “Get the results that others don't by doing what others won't.” I think that has a nicer ring to it and that's how it evolved after this.

But fundamentally, what it’s about, this whole message, is understanding that entrepreneurism is really tough. I mean, it's a real battle sometimes. And all of us - we want an easy life, right? It's evolution. We're not looking to make life harder for ourselves. Sometimes we do, but we don't do it consciously, intentionally. Sometimes we might sabotage ourself unconsciously. But fundamentally we go for an easy life. And if there's an easy path or more difficult path, we'll take the easier path.

Let's take something for example that I talk to a lot of small businesses about, which is sales.

Now a lot of small businesses, when they first start up, they don't want to do sales. That's not why you set up your business. You want to be a technician. You want to go and do what you're doing for good people then go off and do good things. However, by avoiding sales, you're avoiding success. You're avoiding your opportunity to grow your business into what it could otherwise be.

So if you're someone that is reluctant to do sales - if you don't like doing sales - and if we look at the majority of people in a room and they don't like doing sales, well guess what? The success is going to come to the handful that will do sales.

Now ideally, you'll learn to love sales - and we do a whole thing at Success Groups where we help people fall in love with sales - but fundamentally, if you're doing sales, you'll get the results that people that aren't doing sales won't.

The same thing with putting in long hours, for example. We set up our business for freedom. We set it up for an easy life. Maybe we set it up so we could not work Mondays or Fridays, and maybe we have half days on a Wednesday, start late on a Tuesday and Thursday, right?

However, most people don't want to work really, really hard. Most people don't want to work late nights, early mornings. Most people don't want to work weekends, bank holidays. Most people want to take loads of time off. And when there's no boss breathing down your neck, it's just you in your house, and your own potential, and a small office in your back bedroom, it can be really easy to let yourself off the hook.

Guess what? Most people are like that as well.

Most people aren't that disciplined. Most people don't have that kind of graft and that work ethic. So when you put that little bit extra in that other people aren't, you get the results that they won't get to have.

So one of the things we can do in terms of upping our personal performance - and I still talk about this a lot today - when we want to up our personal performance, what we need to do is realize that when there are things we don't want to do, and they're things that most people don't want to do, then the spoils will go to those people that step up and do it anyway.

So I think for this video, that's the overall message I want to leave you with here. “Get the results that others don't by doing what others won't.”

If you step up and if you do the stuff that you don't want to do, understand that there's a whole bunch of people that also don't want to do it, but they're not doing it, and therefore who gets to win? The person that does it.

Every single day, step up to the stuff and challenge yourself with the things that maybe you don't actually want to do but are really important to growing your business and getting you the lifestyle, the quality of life, the success in business that you want to have.

Be that person that starts to lean in on these challenges rather than back off. It's human nature to back off a little bit. It's human nature to avoid the difficult stuff. Whereas actually, you realize that when most people are doing that, if I do the opposite, I get to have all the rewards that they don't necessarily get to have.

So here's to leaning in. Here's to taking on those challenges. Here's to putting on your big girl/big boy pants, and doing all those things you don't necessarily want to do but you know you should do because you know they're going to get you the result.

And understand that when you do it, you're the one that does get to have that result, which means you get to live an extraordinary life, not an ordinary life.

Because an ordinary life is what most people have because of what most people do.

When you do extraordinary things, you get to build an extraordinary business. You get to live an extraordinary life.
